Since 2017, ISYS employees and their families have recognized the essential contribution necessary to help raise awareness and funding for the Alzheimer’s Association. ISYS has actively led and donated to their annual fundraising walk events, and we did so again this past month.
Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases are not just medical conditions but also deeply personal experiences for many of us. The gradual cognitive decline, memory loss, and behavioral changes associated with these conditions profoundly impact individuals and their families. For those living with dementia, it’s a frightening battle to hold on to their intelligence, memory, and independence. And for family members, caregivers, and friends, it’s an emotionally challenging journey as they witness their loved one’s mental and cognitive abilities decline.
While the societal and economic burden of Alzheimer’s is enormous, experts in this field identified that the funding allocated to studying the disease is not proportional to its impact. There is also a significant knowledge gap between the public and those caring for older adults. A growing emphasis on developing programs and support services to educate and improve the quality of life for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. Many states now require specific dementia training for anyone working in an environment with direct contact with older adults with cognitive impairment.
Alzheimer’s Walk 2022Funding is crucial for advancing research in early detection, treatment, and implementing programs to support individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia. While we’ve seen some medical advances and technology enhancements in dementia care, we’re only scratching the surface of what needs to be done.Through ISYS’ educational services division, CareerSmart Learning, we offer a dementia certification program and educational material for healthcare and caregiver training.
Alzheimer’s is a disease that touches everyone—whether directly or indirectly. ISYS will continue to participate and support efforts to work toward a future where Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases no longer claim the memories and lives of those we hold dear. Every walk and contribution bring us another step closer to that goal. Thank you to all who help make these efforts possible.
